Services

The Grant Centers will support proposals involving workforce development, community development and outdoor recreation, job creation and retention, infrastructure and site development, and/or economic development to help address our state’s challenges and capture new opportunities.

Workforce Development & Training

Workforce development efforts designed to increase the size and the quality of West Virginia’s labor force by enhancing lifelong learning opportunities, empowering youth and adults with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the competitive work world, and meeting the rapidly changing needs of businesses, industry, and other employers, resulting in a competitive workforce that enables businesses and communities to prosper.

Community Development & Outdoor Recreation

Community development projects aimed at building stronger and more resilient neighborhoods and communities, making them more sustainable, livable, and desirable and helping to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Outdoor recreation projects focused on leveraging the state’s unique local, regional, and natural assets and improving outdoor recreation resources and infrastructure to attract first-time and repeat visitors and new residents as well as retain current residents.

Outdoor Recreation includes any recreational activity undertaken for pleasure that occurs outdoors in a nature-based environment. Outdoor Economy is a multi-dimensional sector that includes outdoor recreation specific tourism & hospitality; branding, storytelling & media; workforce development & education; activation, programming & events; economic, business & entrepreneurial development; and physical outdoor recreation infrastructure.

Job Creation & Retention

Projects focused on maximizing the creation and retention of high-quality, well-paying job opportunities in the state, which may involve the establishment of new positions, filling existing but unfilled positions, and/or retaining existing filled positions, through efforts to support new or existing sectors and industries primed for growth.

Infrastructure / Site Development

Infrastructure and site development projects centered on building or expanding infrastructure, which may include, buildings, roads, water and sewage systems, and broadband, and readying publicly owned industrial and commercial sites for development to build a strong foundation for economic development and boost the state’s ability to grow and attract new businesses.

Economic Development

Economic development planning or implementation projects that capitalize on high-growth, high-wage sectors and industries, lead the development of new technologies and innovative solutions to the state’s most pressing challenges, and support the growth and diversification of our economy.
